Hands-on Philanthropy cultivates civic engagement and leadership among university students, using philanthropy as a teaching tool. During the first few weeks of the course, students explore the work of nonprofits through classroom learning and site visits. In the second half of the course, students put theory into practice by creating a "classroom foundation", evaluating proposals and awarding real funding to local nonprofits.
Hands-on Philanthropy lets students identify and respond to local needs, explore their own potential as philanthropists, and assume the role of change agents within their community. This course will be piloted at PSU in Spring 2013. 4 credits. For more information email Brian Forrester. RSVP to the Award Ceremony, June 6th. |
